Wounded Warrior Hunt 2014

This past March the East Brady American Legion along with Rosebud Mining and Pheasants Forever put on a three day pheasant hunt for members of the Wounded Warrior Project at Queenstown’s Hunting Reserve. This project helps thousands of injured warriors returning home from the current conflicts and provided assistance to their families.

A seventeen year old disabled youth from Warren, PA had a dream come true in Clearfield County. Matt Bunk was hit by a truck at only eighteen months of age leaving him partially paralyzed and only the use of his left arm. Matt has always wanted to go hunting but never thought he would get the chance to do so.

Outhouse Races 2013

Smiles were easy to come by at the 11th Annual Pheasants Forever Mentored Youth Hunt. Chilly wet weather greeted the early risers waited to start the local Pheasants Forever Chapter 630 Eleventh Annual Youth Mentored Pheasant Hunt held on Saturday, October 6, 2012. Each of these 52 youth from 12-16 years of age participated in the Fox Township Sportsmen Safety Day the weekend before.

The birds and rabbits have better hiding places from coyotes, hawks and fox thanks to the many helping hands that attended the Pennsylvania Game Commission Game Lands work day on March 27, 2010. People came from all over western PA to top pines trees and create brush piles on new Game Lands #44 near Shawmut, PA. Smaller animals will build homes in this new habitat this spring and in years to come.

Students Hatch Chicks

There were kids everywhere! Each and every one was excited to visit the St. Marys’ Middle School Outdoor Club classroom on May 28, 2009. Over 100 students were there to learn how other classes succeeding in hatching their pheasant chicks from eggs. Craig Barr from the Fox Township Sportsmen Club is the volunteer coordinator of the event that included 7 area schools; Fox Township, St. Mary’s Middle School, South St. Marys School, Queen of the World, St. Marys Catholic Middle School, St. Boniface, and Ridgway Middle School. Wayne Fordosti, the retiring science teacher of the St. Marys Middle School was the host of the event and enjoyed showing the kids the hard work of his 7 year old Outdoor Club. What started as a project to study hatching fish has grown in to a small tree farm, greenhouse, hatching chicks and even studying solar and wind power. Mr. Fordosti hopes to continue as a volunteer at the school for year to come but will leave big shoes to fill.

The first volunteers at the Kyler Road site were greeted with the cackle of a male pheasant. A rabbit ran across the field. What a way to start the day! More then 50 men, women and children attend the Pennsylvania Game Land work day on March 28, 2009 on the new Brandy Camp parcel of State Game Lands # 044. Fox Township and Pheasant Forever members turn out in force along with other citizen willing to spend a few hours of their weekend improving the site for small game animals.

This year's Pheasants Forever Chapter 630 Mentored Youth Hunt will be held on October 11, 2008 in the Brandy Camp area of Elk County, Pennsylvania. This is one the club's biggest and best events of the year. Many hunters say introducing youth to pheasant hunting is one of the most rewards hunts of the year.
