Now that you have stocked your freezer with birds, what are you going to do with them? Don’t let them go to waste. Pheasants and grouse may taste somewhat 'like chicken' but store bought chicken pales in comparison to the flavor of the game birds. Of course, if you are a bad shot, you made just need to substitute chicken in this recipe for your annual Wild Game Dinner. Feel free to modify this very simple recipe – add mushrooms or mixed frozen vegetables in the last hour. Cook for 1 hour at 350F instead of the crock pot if you have the time. I always cook up the leg meat for our dog, Abbey, since without her we would not be eating pheasant at all. More recipes can be found at www.pheasantsforever.org.
INGREDIENTS 1 cup long grain white or whole grain rice 2 cups 1% milk 1 (14.5 ounce) can chicken broth The breast meat of 2 pheasants cleaned Salt and pepper to taste
Combine the rice, milk and chicken broth in a slow cooker. Season the pheasant breast with salt and pepper; place into the slow cooker. Cover and cook on Low setting for 6 to 8 hours.
