PGC Work Day March 2010
The birds and rabbits have better hiding places from coyotes, hawks and fox thanks to the many helping hands that attended the Pennsylvania Game Commission Game Lands work day on March 27, 2010. People came from all over western PA to top pines trees and create brush piles on new Game Lands #44 near Shawmut, PA. Smaller animals will build homes in this new habitat this spring and in years to come.
Other habitat work scheduled for this year include planting hundreds of acres of warm season grasses and sorghum fields. The thousands of acres available just on this site will keep the project list active for years to come.
Pheasants Forever Chapter 630 provided the Saturday lunch. Leon's pheasant minestrone soup was a big hit on a chilly day. Hot dogs, cookies and fudge rounded out the meal to keep the workers strong for the afternoon work. Our thanks to Coke for keeping everyone hydrated.
We remind everyone that the Ruffed Grouse Society has a work day planned for Saturday, April 3, 2010. Be at the Rolfe Beagle Club at 9AM to help plant shrubs.
Isn’t it about time you got involved? Pheasants Forever's next meeting is, Thursday, April, 15, 2010 at 7:00 PM at the Capital City fire hall on Front Street in Ridgway, PA. Visit our recently updated web site at http://www.northcentralpapf.org/. For more information, call Jane at 814-772-4604.
