OUTHOUSE RACE IS FOR THE BIRDS!
The Outhouse Race will start at noon on July 27, 2013 at the Elk Country Store in Medix Run. It is just one of the events planned for the Medix Run Rendezvous. Proceeds from the race will benefit the Pheasants Forever Youth Outdoor Foundation.
Well now I’ve heard it all. There are actually outhouse obstacle courses! Your team must have 3 – 5 people, one to sit in the outhouse while the others push, pull or haul the outhouse around the course. If this sounds like fun, don’t miss the First Annual Medix Run Rendezvous on July 27 and 28. The fun is 10am-5pm each day and includes the outhouse race, raffles and prizes at the Elk Country Store and bands, Starr Hill wine tasting and the Straub Tap Takeover at the Medix Hotel across the street.
‘There are almost 20 vendors signed up,’ says Patty McDowell, owner of the Elk County Store in Medix Run. Face painting for the kids, shopping with the vendors and antique tractors for the guys means everyone will have fun. A motorcycle dice run will be pushing through and stopping at the intersection of the Quehanna Highway and route 555.
Peggy from the Medix Hotel is used to a large crowd and will be sure there is food on the front porch for a quick bite to eat. This is our first Medix Run Rendezvous,’ says Peggy, ‘but we plan to grow every year.’ Sandy and Bert from next door are polished their old tractors for everyone to admire. The PA Game Commission will have their Elk Trailer on site that celebrates the 100th year of the reintroduction of elk to our region.
So how does PF fit in? All proceeds from the outhouse race as well as donations from the vendors is going to the Pheasants Forever Youth Outdoor (PFYO) Foundation. Some vendors will be donating prizes for a Chinese auction.
‘The PFYO was started a few years ago to fund taking handicapped and challenged kids on local hunting adventures,’ says Jane Bryndel, PF Treasurer. ‘We are so grateful to be a part of the Medix Run Rendezvous.’
Pheasants Forever will have a raffle that will continue through the Elk Expo on August 18, 2013. The first prize is a choice of Tristar Setter over/under 12 gauge shotgun or $400 CASH or a $500 Pheasant Hunt at Fork Ridge Ranch hunting preserve. Second place is a choice of a Garmin Etrex 30 GPS or $150 CASH and thirds is a choice of a Salvage Mark II .22 LR accutrigger with a Tasco 3x9 scope or $100 CASH. Tickets are available before hand by emailing email@example.com or calling 814-594-3048.
